Idiopathic Axillary Web Syndrome

      A 73-year-old woman presented to her primary care provider's clinic for discomfort and swelling under her left axilla for 1 week (Figure 1). She first noticed axillary swelling with uncomfortable tension when lifting her arm and doing routine activities such as brushing her hair. Her symptoms were more prominent with shoulder elevation and abduction. She denied any constitutional symptoms (including fever or weight loss), history of known malignancy, breast surgery, or trauma to the area. The patient was a caregiver by profession, which involved repetitive use of her upper extremities and heavy lifting.
