Something More Sinister: Middle Fossa Meningioma

      The patient, a 55-year-old woman, appeared to be suffering from a recalcitrant bout of acute otitis media, but the true diagnosis was far more unusual. Previously healthy, she presented after a week of worsening pain and discharge from the right ear. The ear pain, constant and dull, was associated with diminished hearing on that side. She had no fever or headache. Antibiotics were prescribed but after a week, the symptoms remained. The patient had no history of trauma to the ear or prior ear symptoms, nor was she known to be a diabetic. Myringotomy was attempted but could not be accomplished due to increased bleeding.
