A Bright Spot

      When echocardiography, the customary diagnostic modality, did not identify a suspected infection, we turned to another method. Our patient, a 71-year old man, was admitted for an ischemic occipital stroke and fever. Two years earlier, he received a new biological prosthesis as a replacement for the original aortic bioprosthesis that had been implanted 20 years before.
