PRESENTING FEATURES: A 91-year-old man who had chronic renal insufficiency presented with diarrhea and
intermittent abdominal pain of 4 weeks’ duration. He had four stools per day, which
occasionally awakened him from sleep. He denied back pain, fever, weight loss, melena,
bright red blood from the rectum, and changes in urination.
