      Abstract

A case of carcinoid heart disease associated with an ovarian carcinoid teratoma is described. Three similar cases have been recorded in the literature. In all four cases the patients presented with features of heart failure and right-sided valvular lesions. The three patients in whom the primary tumour was removed became symptom-free and remained so during follow-up examination. The possible mechanism of heart failure in these cases is discussed; it is concluded that the valvular lesion did not play a major role.
