Appropriate Antibiotics of Weil Disease

Hua Chiew Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand

Article Outline

To the Editor:

I read with interest the article by Leung and Schiffer.1 The authors prescribed a 10-day course of doxycycline in a patient with Weil disease. I disagree. Although doxycycline should be used in mild leptospirosis and chemoprophylaxis, penicillin G or ampicillin administered intravenously is preferred for the treatment of severe leptospirosis or Weil disease.2
