The American Journal of Medicine Blog: An Invitation to Participate

Professor of Medicine, University of Arizona College of Medicine, Tucson

Article Outline

For 2 years now, the editorial and administrative arms of The American Journal of Medicine have been discussing whether or not and how to initiate a blog for the Journal. In September 2008, The American Journal of Medicine blog was launched at http://amjmed.blogspot.com.

Primary content for the blog is taken from the pages of the Journal. Most editorials, commentaries, and lead research articles will appear on the blog and link to the Journal's website. It is our hope that the blog will become a place where physicians and other healthcare professionals can discuss the research and ideas that have been published in the Journal. We welcome opinion, relevant statistics, quotations from other sources, rational thoughtful commentary, and academic debate on our blog. The expectation is that the Journal's blog will spark informative—perhaps even spirited—discussions, similar to those found on other media blogs.

The Journal's blog will have certain rules and restrictions. They are listed here.

1.Material sent to the blog must refer to some article published in the Journal or on our blog. Research articles, editorials, and commentaries published in AJM are “fair game” for comments and discussion on the blog.

2.All comments sent to the blog will be reviewed in our editorial office before being posted on the blog page.

3.No insulting, sarcastic, or inflammatory blog comments will be accepted.

4.The decision as to what is and what is not allowed to be posted is the purview of the Editor-in-Chief. All decisions are final and not subject to reconsideration.

5.Blog submissions will be limited to 150 words. A few selected references supporting a particular point are allowed, but no long bibliographies, please. We will not have unlimited space on the blog and concise, crisp, and well reasoned postings make for a better blog.

6.Style, syntax, and spelling will not be edited on blog submissions. Therefore, please proofread carefully any submission to the blog. Errors in spelling and grammar are embarrassing for the person who submits them.

7.Material posted on the blog is not published by The American Journal of Medicine and will not be cited as a manuscript or letter in the Journal.

8.Blog postings will not have The American Journal of Medicine or Pubmed citations.

Dear readers: Get ready, get set, GO to The American Journal of Medicine blog at http://amjmed.blogspot.com and tell us what you think about what we are publishing.
